laboratory of rare scattered elements
Main achievements:
- For the first time, production of rhenium products from technogenic raw materials, resulting from the processing of off-grade molybdenite, copper, lead concentrates and leaching solutions of uranium ores, was organized. The developed technologies were implemented at the Chimkent Lead Plant, Balkhash Mining and Metallurgical Combine and Mining and Metallurgical Combine of the city of Navoi;
- A multi-chamber electrodialyzer for the production of rhenium acid from technical ammonium perrhenate was first developed and manufactured. The technology was implemented at the Chimkent Lead Plant, the mining and smelting plant in the city of Navoi and the Republican State Enterprise Zhezkazganredmet;
- For the first time in world practice, the technology of osmium-187 isotope production from technogenic formations, obtained by processing copper concentrates at the Republican State Enterprise Zhezkazganredmet, was developed and introduced.
Basic research directions:
- Involvement in the sphere of production of technogenic raw materials of the metallurgical and chemical industries: development of technologies for the production of rare and rare earth elements, mineral fillers and stabilizers;
- Development of processes for the electrochemical processing of technogenic raw materials, the production of pure metals and nanostructured alloys based on rare metals by the method of membrane electrolysis.
Scientific and technical developments offered to implementation:
- Technologies for extracting rhenium from ultra-poor solutions of underground leaching of uranium ores of Kazakhstan;
- Technology for extracting rhenium from wastewater from the sulfuric acid plant at the Balkhash smelter;
- Technology for recycling rhenium, nickel and cobalt from waste heat-resistant nickel superalloys;
- Technology for producing high purity metallic rhenium using a combination of electrodialysis and hydrogen reduction methods for ammonium perrhenate;
- Technology for producing electrolytic coatings based on rhenium alloys with tungsten, molybdenum and nickel;
- Technology of complex processing of slags of the phosphorus industry with obtaining precipitated silicon dioxide and concentrate REMs.
Laboratory staff:
The staff of the laboratory: 10 employees, including 3 doctors of technical sciences (including academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan), 3 candidates of technical sciences, 1 PhD, 3 masters in the specialty “Metallurgy”.
