Laboratory of material science
Main achievements:
New materials for various purposes, methods of their production and processing were developed, including: composite aluminomatrix materials; refractory and ceramic materials for various purposes; proppants based on Kazakhstani raw materials, prototypes of endoprostheses for hip joint replacement. A complex of laboratory research and technological equipment was created, which surpasses analogs in a number of parameters:
- vacuum arc furnace for garnissage melting and casting of titanium alloys;
- installations for the production of cast alumina matrix composite materials in various conditions and volumes;
- Ion cleaning and magnetron sputtering unit;
- A setup for determining the hydrogen permeability of planar membranes;
- CNC unit for contact welding of hydrogen permeable membranes;
- installation for determination of the edge angle of wetting of the substrate surface by metal melts under vacuum conditions;
- Methods and equipment for deposition of biocompatible layers on the surface of titanium alloy endoprostheses;
- membrane unit for production of ultrapure hydrogen on the basis of hydrogen-permeable membranes based on niobium and tantalum;
- Installation for triboistries of wear-resistant materials according to the scheme of a ball on a disk;
- Installation for testing materials for resistance to abrasive wear;
- Bearing test bench for testing bearings under operating conditions.
Main areas of research:
- Development of technology for deposition of wear-resistant coatings based on carbide and carbonitride metal compounds with high tribotechnical properties by reactive magnetron sputtering;
- Development of technology, equipment and materials for low-tonnage induction and vacuum-arc melting and casting of titanium alloys;
- Development of technologies for formation of biocompatible calcium-phosphate coatings by plasma-electrolytic deposition method;
- Development of technologies for obtaining individualized titanium endoprostheses by casting with the use of integrated additive technologies;
- Development of new cast aluminomatrix composite materials, technologies and equipment for their production;
- Development of composite hydrogen permeable membranes based on tantalum, niobium and their alloys;
- Development of technology for obtaining ceramic proppants on the basis of natural and anthropogenic aluminosilicate and magnesia-silicate raw materials for oil and gas production industry;
- Development of technology for production of ceramic filter elements for purification of industrial gases, ceramic filters; refractories for metallurgical industry; construction ceramics;
- Development of ways to improve the performance characteristics of castings from wear-resistant high-chromium white cast irons.

- Technology of application of wear-resistant hard composite coatings on the surface of parts by reactive magnetron sputtering method;
- Technology of pressing of products from high-strength aluminum alloy B96 and B96c under conditions of superplastic flow;
- Technology of production of cast alumina matrix composite materials discretely reinforced with titanium carbide;
- Technology of manufacturing of crucibles from yttrium oxide;
- Technology of biocompatible coatings application on the surface of endoprostheses from titanium alloys;
- Technology of ceramic proppants production on the basis of aluminosilicate raw materials;
- Technology of production of forsterite refractory materials;
- Technology of production of castings from titanium alloys using fired casting models
