Visit of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Pilot Experimental Production Facility of the Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Beneficiation
On April 12, 2025, as part of a working visit dedicated to the Day of Science Workers, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek, visited the pilot experimental metallurgical production facility of the Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Beneficiation.
The General Director of the JSC “Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Beneficiation,” Bagdaulet Kenzhaliyev, introduced the Minister and the Rector of Satbayev University, Meiram Begentayev, to the production site. He presented the vacuum distillation unit for refining crude selenium — a technology developed by scientists of the Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Beneficiation at Satbayev University. This innovative technology enabled the launch of industrial-scale operation of a unique installation that produces materials meeting the standards of the global non-ferrous metals market. The selenium refining technology and the research results made it possible to establish a production site at Kazakhmys Corporation LLP, producing selenium with a purity of at least 99.5%, compliant with GOST 10298-2018 standards.
The Minister also toured the pilot unit for testing the Bayer-hydro garnet technology, as well as enrichment and hydrometallurgical sections, and the terrace board production site under the commercialisation project of the National Scientific and Technical Program “Establishment of composite materials production based on wood components.”
Scientists from the Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Beneficiation presented some scientific and technical developments that have undergone pilot and semi-industrial testing and are ready for implementation in production.
The Minister praised the achievements of the university and the work of the institute’s scientists. He also shared his vision for the future development of science in Kazakhstan, in line with the President’s directives to enhance the country’s scientific potential.
