Significant date
On August 28, 2023, for the first time in the Republic of Kazakhstan, a unique workshop for the production of branded (refined) selenium with a content of at least 99.5% of the main component was opened in the city of Balkhash at the production facilities of Kazakhmys Progress LLP. The reagent-free technology and environmentally friendly vacuum equipment were developed by the scientists of JSC “Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Beneficiation” of Satbayev University. The planned annual volume of processed crude selenium is 75 tons, which is produced at the Balkhash copper smelter of Kazakhmys Smelting LLP. At the same time, more than 60 tons of refined selenium, which is in demand on all world metal markets, will be obtained, and gold and silver, which were lost with black selenium, will be additionally returned to production.
