On New Year’s Eve, we summarize the past period and plan new tasks for the future.
In 2019, the Institute staffed 220 people, including scientific personnel – 142 people, including employees with academic degrees of 50 people: 9 doctors of sciences (among them 1 academician of the NAS of the Republic of Kazakhstan), 35 candidates of sciences and 6 PhDs.
The year 2019 was tense and productive in all areas of the scientific and production activities of our Institute: studies were conducted on one scientific and technical program and 20 grant projects, as well as contract work with domestic and foreign scientific centers and industrial enterprises.
The program and projects are aimed at solving problems that are important for the country’s metallurgical industry. Their result should be new effective technologies for the extraction of non-ferrous, rare and rare-earth metals from mineral and man-made raw materials of Kazakhstan, methods for producing new functional materials with a high level of technical characteristics, and approbation of the developed technologies in pilot plants. Upon completion, all these projects will have a concrete practical result, and in the future it is necessary to carry out work on their commercialization and implementation in production.
In 2019, the Institute employees published 104 scientific works (in 2018 – 92), of which 11 in domestic scientific publications, 26 in foreign scientific publications (RSCI database), 14 in foreign scientific journals (databases (Scopus, Web of Science); delivered 37 reports at international conferences; received 8 patents of the Republic of Kazakhstan and 7 applications for invention.
Last year, contractual work was carried out on the order of industrial enterprises: Kazakhmys Smelting LLP (S. Kozhakhmetov, S. Kvyatkovsky), TauKen Consulting LLP (A. Koizhanova, E. Kamalov), Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium-Magnesium Plant (Akhmetova K.Sh.), Altyn MM Mining and Metallurgical Concern (Koizhanova AK, Magomedov DR), Research and Development Engineering Center ERG LLP et al. Much work has been carried out by the National Scientific Laboratory for Collective Use (Panichkin A.V., Berkinbaeva A.N., Ruzakhunova G.S.). In total, 37 business contracts were completed for a total of 41.4 million tenge.
The Institute’s scientific and technical relations with foreign companies were developed, contractual work was carried out: to improve the technology of pyrometallurgical processing of copper sulfide raw materials at the MPZ copper smelter at the Almalyk mining and metallurgical plant, Uzbekistan (Kozhakhmetov S., Kvyatkovsky S. A.); development of a pilot model of a plant for flotation of fine particles of gold-bearing ore of the Olympia deposit by order of the company Polyus JSC, Krasnoyarsk, Russia (Tusupbaev N.K.); development of technological regimes for the production of hydrogarnet pigments and the production of pilot batches of products for the company “Hydrogarnet Pigments” at the Skolkovo Innovation Center, Russia (Abdulvaliev R.A., Gladyshev S.V.); assessment of the possibility of additional extraction of metals from supersort®metall concentrates after slag processing by vacuum distillation by order of DHZ AG, Switzerland (Nitsenko A.V., Trebuhov S.A.). In 2019, 10 applications were submitted for the competition on grant funding for scientific research for young scientists (2020-2022).
Achievements of our scientists are marked by high republic awards. Al-Farabi State Prize, which is the highest recognition of the merits of science and technology workers in society and the state, was awarded to the Director General of the Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Beneficiation (IMOB) JSC, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor B. Kenzhaliyev as a member of the team of authors. According to the results of the Competition of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Institute employees, candidates of technical sciences A.V. Nitsenko and Burabaeva N.M. were awarded with State scientific scholarships for talented young scientists.
Let me wish you good health, happiness, prosperity, creative inspiration and new successes for the benefit of the development of metallurgical science!
