On September 24-26, 2024 — a Korean-Kazakhstan seminar was held in Almaty, organized with the participation of a delegation from Korea representing the Korean National Institute of Rare Metals (KORAM), Korean Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH). The event brought together over 30 experts from both countries to discuss cooperation in the field of rare metals science, industry, and technology.

The seminar featured the participation of Ayan Ramazan, Deputy Chairman of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Meiram Begentayev, Rector of Satbayev University; Erjan Kuldeev and Samgat Ermekbaev, Vice-Rectors for Corporate Development and International Cooperation at Satbayev University; and Darhan Akhmed-Zaki, Vice Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, who joined the session online and wished the participants productive work in his welcoming speech.

Day One: Opening and Discussion of Prospects
The seminar began with an opening meeting where delegates exchanged greetings and discussed the purpose of the visit. B.K. Kenzhaliyev, General Director of the “Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Beneficiation” JSC, and Pak Kyung Tae, Director of KORAM, opened the workshop with presentations of the participants and the meeting’s objectives.
A.A. Shakhalova, Head of the Technogenic Raw Material Processing Department at “Kazakhmys Progress” LLP, presented a report on the implemented technology for refining raw selenium. A.A. Shaimerdenov, Head of the Nuclear Safety Problems Laboratory at the Nuclear Physics Institute, presented scientific developments from the Institute.
On the first day, delegations discussed the establishment of a scientific center for high-temperature materials and technologies for the production of high-quality products based on rare metals. Participants considered directions for joint research and the development of new technologies.

Day Two: Innovations and Experience Sharing
On the second day of the seminar, participants focused on sharing scientific achievements and technologies. Kazakh researchers presented several innovative projects, including environmentally friendly technologies for processing rare metals and methods for extracting valuable elements from technogenic waste.
After plenary sessions, delegates continued their work in working groups, discussing the application of new technologies in industry.

Day Three: Familiarization with Production Capacities
On the final day, the Korean delegation visited the experimental metallurgical production of “Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Beneficiation” JSC, where they discussed possible sites for the construction of a new scientific center. Delegates also familiarized themselves with the sights of Almaty, which facilitated the strengthening of personal and professional ties among participants.

Conclusion
