Rinat Anvarbekovich Abdulvaliev, who is head of the Alumina and Aluminum Laboratory at the Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Benefication, celebrates his 70th anniversary of the birth this year.

R.A. Abdulvaliev belongs to the cohort of the best representatives of national science, being a recognized scientist in the field of hydrometallurgy of light and rare metals.

For over 45 years he has been engaged in research and development in the field of metallurgy of alumina, aluminum and uranium, he has a high professional erudition and organizational skills.

Throughout his professional activities, he was associated with various areas of metallurgical science and production.

From 1982 to 1983 he worked as Head of the Sectoral Alumina Laboratory of the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute, providing scientific support and modernization of the Pavlodar Aluminum Plant.

From 1984 to 1990 he worked at the Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Benefication and participated in international projects within the framework of cooperation between the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and the Academy of Sciences of Germany (Institute of Chemical Technology, Berlin), doing research on complex hydro-alkaline processing of ash from brown coal of Germany.

From 1990 to 1992 he was the chief expert of the Kazmetall Association on the metallurgy of light and rare metals. From 1992 to 1994 he served as director for innovation and ecology of the Kazakh Corporation for Nuclear Energy and Industry – Atomic Energy and Industry Company.

From 1995 to 1999 R.A. Abdulvaliev was an adviser to the President of JSC “Aluminum of Kazakhstan” on science and new industries. From 1999 to 2000 he warked as Head of Technical Department of Aksu Ferroalloy Plant.

From 2000 to 2005 he was the Chief Manager of the Strategic Planning Department, Director of the Marketing and Sales Department of NAC Kazatomprom JSC. In 2005, by the decision of the Board of NAC Kazatomprom JSC, R.A. Abdulvaliev was elected as General Director of the first Kazakhstani-Japanese uranium mining enterprise “APPAK”, whose participants from the Japanese side were the corporations Sumitomo and Kansai. Under his leadership, a complex for uranium mining and uranium oxide production using peroxide technology in the South Kazakhstan region of the Republic of Kazakhstan was built and put into operation in 2008.

From 2011 to the present, he has been working at the Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Benefication (IMOB) as Head of the Laboratory of Alumina and Aluminum. Currently, one of the main areas of his activity is the development of scientific foundations and industrial development of the Bayer-hydrogarnate technology for processing ferrous bauxite.

The implementation of the Program “Scientific and technological support for the construction of an alumina plant in the Kostanay region of the Republic of Kazakhstan based on the Bayer-hydrogarnate technology of processing ferrous balsa iron” was successfully completed under his scientific leadership in 2017.

The program was implemented in fulfillment of the task indicated in the Address of the President on February 6, 2008. “Construction of The new aluminum plant in Kostanay region “, and the protocol decisions of the Ministry of Investment and Development is planned in the near future…

During 2015-2017 on the territory of the Experimental Metallurgical Production of the Institute, a production site was created and a pilot plant was created that has no analogues in the CIS, Bayer-hydrogarnate technology was tested under conditions close to the factory; Prototypes of production were produced: production alumina, micronized aluminum hydroxide, garnet sludge, cast iron and building bricks. Technological regulations and technical and economic assessment of the construction of an alumina plant in the Kostanay region of Kazakhstan, which are necessary for the preparation of the Investment project for the construction of a new alumina plant in the Kostanay region of the Republic of Kazakhstan based on the Bayer-hydrogarnet technology for the processing of ferrous coxal bauxite with a capacity of 1 million tons per year.

His scientific works received recognition of the international scientific community. Currently, the laboratory headed by him has developed a technology for processing alumina production wastes with the production of modern anti-corrosion pigments for the Skolkovo Innovation Center Hydro-Pigments company. A contract has been signed with the company providing for the development of technological modes for the production of hydro-granate pigments and the production of pilot batches of products. In the framework of scientific and technical cooperation with Suleyman Demirel University, Isparta and the Turkish aluminum company ETI

Aluminum A.S, work is being carried out on the integrated processing of red mud from the Turkish aluminum plant.

R. A. Abdulvaliev’s scientific activity and his organizational skills characterize him as a leading scientist in the field of metallurgy of alumina, aluminum and uranium, who has made a significant contribution to the creation of scientific foundations and the introduction of technological schemes for processing alumina and uranium-containing raw materials.

R.A. Abdulvaliev has published more than 150 scientific papers, including 1 monograph and more than 30 copyright certificates of the USSR, patents and innovation patents of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

We wish Rinat Anvarbekovich good health, happiness, creative inspiration and new remarkable successes for the benefit of the development of metallurgical science.
