Institute of metallurgy and ore benefication Joint-Stock Company was founded in 1945.
IMB JSC is one of the leading research centers in the Republic of Kazakhstan which carries out fundamental and applied research as well as experimental and technological developments in the field of enrichment and processing of mineral and man-made materials, metallurgy and materials science.
The strategic objective of IMB JSC is to become a key element of the national research and technological infrastructure as an integrated research and development center which is capable to solve innovative development tasks of national industry in the metal-bearing raw materials processing and metal science.
The Institutes’s activities are focused on the creation and development of advanced research and industrial cluster in the field of deep processing of mineral resources, obtaining new materials, ensuring environmental security as well as sustainable development of production and territorial centers following the strategic priorities of Kazakhstan to become one of the 50 most competitive countries in the world.
IMB JSC is an accredited research organisation (the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 003300 dated March 12, 2013). The organisation has implemented a certified quality management system for scientific research, research staff training to meet the requirements of ST RK ISO 9001-2009 “Quality Management System” (Certificate of Conformity № KZ.О.02.0729 № 0057234 of July 27, 2016, valid until September 15, 2018).
The Institute has the laboratory and production facilities, communications, up-to-date equipment to conduct research; there is the National Science Laboratory which includes laboratories for chemical and physical methods of analysis, metal technology as well as support services (mechanical and glass blowing shops, a library, a patent group, an information group etc.). IMB JSC has a pilot metallurgical production to test research and technological developments.
The Institute publishes “Complex Use of Mineral Resources” scientific and technical journal.
Nowadays 249 employees including 82 researchers 11 of them are doctors of sciences (including 1 academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan) and 42 candidates of sciences work for IMB JSC.
